Do you know where you stand?

Cheryl Getz Fitness Supervisor Clinton Wellness Center Fitness Assessment & Orientation

There are many benefits to knowing and understanding your health and fitness levels.  Fitness is not only what you look like and feel like, but most importantly how it affects you on a physiological and physical level.  Cardiovascular fitness plays a major role in helping prevent certain health issues and concerns; like high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol and type II diabetes.  By having a Fitness Assessment with one of our certified trainers, you will be able to obtain results from performing a cardiovascular test. This test will allow you to see where you stand on a scale based on your age and gender; by factoring in your blood pressure and heart rate responses during the various intensity levels.

During the Fitness Assessment you will also be tested on the other four components of exercise which include; muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition.  The body composition techniques we use will determine your lean body weight as opposed to your body fat.  What we like a person to understand is that not everyone joins a wellness center/gym for the same reasons.  There are many different reasons for joining but the bottom line is that exercise should be an important part of everyone’s daily lifestyle.  It is very rewarding to see positive changes in an individual from their initial assessment to a re-assessment.  We have seen many wonderful changes from increased cardiovascular levels, lowering of blood pressure and heart rate readings, increased strength from performing weight bearing exercises, more lean body weight and uplifted spirits because exercise releases natural “feel good” endorphins.

The other appointment we offer is an Orientation to the strength training machines.  Whether the person has experience with training or not they are able to have up to two of these appointments.  We cannot stress enough about the value of weight bearing exercise.  Many individuals come to us with concerns of weak muscles and the start of osteopenia or osteoporosis.  This is a decline or loss of bone density.  By performing strength training, whether on selectorized pieces of equipment or free weights, the individual uses weight bearing activities which help bone density to avoid progression of the disease.

This appointment allows the individual to condition each of the muscle groups which are necessary for improvement of the whole body.  In combination with cardiovascular exercise and stretching, weight training will complete a well rounded exercise program.  The key component to an exercise program is to make it part of your daily routine and have fun doing it.  Please allow us to take you through these steps so you can achieve a healthier, happier, more fulfilled life.
