Family Fun Walk and Run Will Support Breast Care Programs at Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center

April 3, 2008

Mark and Tami

Mark Wetter of Radom and Wetter in Bridgewater and Tamra Campanella of Hunterdon Health and Wellness Center in Whitehouse Station created the Family Fun Run to support breast cancer programs at Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center.

Mother's Day is a time to commemorate and celebrate motherhood.  Seven years ago, Mark Wetter of Hillsborough wanted to do something special in honor of his mother Joyce, who had passed away from breast cancer.  Mr. Wetter approached Tamra Campanella, Director of Hunterdon Health and Wellness Center in Whitehouse Station about creating an event to support breast cancer programs in our community and also to honor "moms."  Mrs. Campanella's mother, Sally Tibbitts of Washington, is a breast cancer survivor, so the cause was close to her heart.    The Family Fun Walk and Run was created and the 1st year 150 walkers and runners attended the event which raised $3,000 for Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center.  Today, nearly 700 runners and walkers from all over New Jersey come out to enjoy the Family Fun Walk and Run.  Last year, the event raised $30,000 for breast care programs at Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center.

On Saturday, May 3rd, Hunterdon Health and Wellness Center, Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center and Radom and Wetter Attorneys at Law are sponsoring the 8th Annual Family Fun Walk & Run for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. All proceeds will support breast care programs at Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center.  The event is being held at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater and is a USA Track and Field (USATF) certified course.

Whether you run, walk, or just watch, there are things to see and do, and prizes to win, all of which were generously donated by local businesses.  Children will enjoy racing in the "Mad Dash," face painting, and clowns.

Registration for runners and walkers begins at 8:00 a.m.  The 5K run begins at 9:00 a.m.  The two-mile walk kicks off at 9:05 a.m. and follows the same trail through the park.  A "Mad Dash" for children begins at 9:45 a.m.  Registration can be made in advance for $15.00 or on the day of the event for $20.00. Children's events are free; no registration is necessary.

Groups of ten or more are encouraged to register their team together.  Group pre-registration can be made in advance for $10.00 per person and $15.00 per person the day of the event.
First place runners (male and female) will receive a cash prize of $200.  Second place runners will receive $100.  Third place runners will receive $75.  All participants will receive T-shirts and other give-aways while supplies last.
