When girl scouts Amanda Romano of Lebanon Township and Danielle Brooks of Clinton started to think about their Girl Scout Gold Award they decided to do something special for Hunterdon Hospice.  These young women had experienced Hospice care first hand when loved ones received Hospice services recently, and both Amanda and Danielle were very moved by the kindness and compassion that Hospice provided.  They wanted to do something to give back and also to contribute to the care and support that Hospice offers.

These young women, who are juniors at North Hunterdon High School, first agreed that they wanted to touch the lives of the patients and their families.  They asked people in the local schools to donate soft blankets.  Once the blankets were received, Amanda and Danielle met with a friend and embroidered thoughtful and caring messages on each blanket.  The blankets now say, “Be strong”, “See the Beauty in Everything”, “Have Courage”, or “You are Loved” as a few examples.

They also wanted to do something for the staff at Hunterdon Hospice.  They knew that the nurses and social workers spent a lot of time in their cars traveling to see patients, so the girls made up gift bags for all the staff members.  Each bag contained a water bottle, a beautiful silver heart necklace, a gift card from McDonalds for a sandwich, and homemade fudge!  The staff was so moved by the generosity and thoughtfulness of the gifts.

“Amanda and Danielle worked for months on this project and the end result is just amazing.  These two young women are wonderful examples of the caring and compassionate youth that we have in this area.  We are so proud of all that they have done for our patients, their families, and the staff at Hunterdon Hospice," said Joy Stump, Volunteer Coordinator with Hunterdon Hospice.
