For some women, trying to get pregnant can be difficult. Recent studies published in The Journal of the Medical Women's Association and The Journal of Fertility and Sterility indicated that infertile women utilizing hypnosis techniques have a 42-55% conception rate as compared to 20% with Invitro Fertilization alone. Hunterdon Medical Center is now offering Hypnotherapy for Fertility to help women conceive naturally and to provide support to women undergoing invitro fertilization and other medical procedures.
Hypnosis is a naturally induced state of relaxed concentration in which suggestions are made to the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind influences choices we make, and what we think and feel. It is not magic, but almost anyone who chooses can reach a deep relaxation and redirected focus. This profound state of deep relaxation can be achieved through daily practice.
"Hypnosis affects the hypothalamus, the neural center at the base of the brain linked to the pituitary gland and controls the flow of hormones in the body. The hypothalamus is sensitive to stress and acts as a bridge between the emotional and physical, turning emotional messages into physical responses that affect hormone levels," explained Jean Jamele, RN, BSN, LCCE, FACCE, Director of Parenting and Childbirth Education at Hunterdon Medical Center. Jamele added, "Hypnosis naturally resets the body. It keeps the mind and body in the parasympathetic state to help reduce stress the couple is dealing with. Hypnotherapy can transform that fear and frustration a couple may be feeling and provides them with the tools they need to achieve a calm, peaceful, positive and viable pregnancy."
Hypnosis sessions are an hour and a client must make the commitment to attend at least four sessions. For more information or to register call 908-788-MOMS (6667).
