Nutritional Services
Good nutrition is an important part of cancer care before, during, and after treatment. Eating a balanced diet can help patients feel better and stay stronger. The Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center staff is dedicated to helping patients learn about their nutrition needs, as well as how to cope with the side effects of treatment.
Each patient has an individualized treatment plan and different response to treatments. A healthy, well-balanced diet is always encouraged. Unfortunately, during treatment, maintaining your usual diet may become more challenging. Possible side effects from cancer treatment may include a change in smell or taste, sore mouth, loss of appetite, and changes in weight. With recommendations from the dietitian and oncologist, a few dietary modifications in conjunction with medicines as recommended, can alleviate these symptoms.
Improved success of treatment is seen in patients that maintain good nutrition and usual body weight. A dedicated registered dietitian with extensive experience working with cancer patients is available at Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center to assess patient nutritional needs, assist with eating difficulties, or answer any questions regarding nutrition.
If you have nutritional concerns at this time or any time during or after treatment, please feel free to contact, and request an appointment with, the oncology dietitian at 908-237-5496.
