Community Outreach

The Community Outreach services (listed below) make it possible for individuals and families whose lives are affected by mental illness or emotional disorder to function more fully in the community – and among themselves.

The active support provided by Community Outreach staff improve the chance of success as consumers progress toward their goal. All services are provided free of charge.

Supported Employment

This program is a grant-funded service provided free of charge to consumers. We help with career counseling, job seeking, onsite job coaching and ongoing job support. Individual sessions, vocational workshops and job support groups are available. The goal of our program is to assist individuals with mental illness achieve success and satisfaction in their chosen vocation.

Intensive Family Support

A free program that provides education, supportive counseling, family support groups and educational workshops to reduce the isolation and stigma while increasing the understanding and acceptance of mental illness.

Provides the tools for the families and friends of those with a psychiatric disorder for understanding the disease process. Interventions aim to sustain the family´s ability to cope with the disease, minimize stress and decrease the stigma associated with a diagnosis of mental illness. Programs include respite, the Family Support Group, and community education workshops.

We also offer social and recreational respites in order to reduce some of the emotional and physical demands on caregivers.

The Hunterdon Older Adult Program

Provides in home counseling and advocacy for older adults who are over 60 with the goals of helping to maintain independence, self-sufficiency and quality of life. Caregiver support groups are also provided throughout the county. For more information please call (908) 237-2364 or (908) 788-6401.

Getting Together Self Help Center

Provides a means for meeting new friends, reaching common goals and making a positive impact in our community through advocacy, peer support, and social activities. The center is staffed entirely by survivors and patients of the mental health system. Getting Together is dedicated to working toward an improved quality of life for all people and a time when no one is stigmatized by mental illness. For more information please call (908) 806-8202.
