Rehabilitation Services
provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care to patients of all ages at three convenient locations
Evaluation, testing and treatment programs are coordinated by our multi-disciplinary teams of therapists, physicians and other specialists to assure the highest quality of care. Our services include:
Physical Therapy
Have you recently suffered a work or sports-related injury? Have you suffered a stroke or other neurological incident? Have you had surgery for joint replacement or ligamentous repair? You may benefit from a course of physical therapy to reduce pain, increase your range of motion, increase strength and improve your functional mobility.
You will receive a one-on-one assessment to develop a comprehensive program designed to meet your special needs. You will see the same therapist at each visit and work together to build rapport and trust.
The course of your rehabilitation will include training in follow-up exercises to allow you to safely continue the program at work or at home.

Outpatient Physical Therapy
Provides ongoing care after your hospital discharge. Hunterdon Medical Center's Outpatient services are located in the new, spacious Sand Hill Professional Building.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy helps people disabled by illness or injury to achieve independence in their activities of daily living. Treatment programs are designed to promote self-sufficiency, maintain strength and regain motion.
In addition to traditional occupational therapy techniques, the department offers hand therapy and special upper extremity rehabilitation by certified hand therapists.
Also available through the Occupational Therapy department is the Lymphedema Treatment Program provided by a therapist certified in manual lymphatic drainage techniques.
Lymphedema affects more than three million people in the United States each year. Lymphedema is a persistent swelling, usually in an arm or leg, caused by a malformation or malfunction of the lymphatic system.
Factors that may cause impairment of the lymphatic system include: removal of lymph nodes as part of the surgery for breast or prostate cancer; radiation therapy to the groin area or underarm; trauma or infection of the lymph system, or congenital malformation of the lymph system.
Preventive care to avoid lymphedema and early treatment (if swelling does occur) are extremely important. If left untreated, lymphedema may lead to infection, chronic swelling, numbness in the affected limb, or a loss of joint mobility. One form of treatment is manual lymphatic drainage, a light touch massage technique that helps stimulate the lymphatic system to start moving fluid again.
